Rytterknægten, the highest point in Bornholm is in a large forest called Almindingen. It reaches 162 meters above the sea level.
Jens, the local guide, tells us about the
outlook tower which reaches above the tree tops.
Bornholm is far away from the rest of Denmark. When a king (Frederik VII) actually did visit Bornholm in 1851
the island's inhabitants enjoyed it so much that they erected the tower.

In remembrance of his Majesty King Frederik VII's highest presence on this island
from 8 till 16 August 1851 with his wife,
the Bornholmers out of subjectorial reverence erected this building
in the year 1855 and gave it the name Kongemindet ("in memory of the king").
(The king's wife was considered to be of low birth and so she could not be called queen
according to the custom of those days.)
